Transfers

It is sometimes necessary to transfer babies to other hospitals.

If you live some distance from Nepean Hospital your baby may be moved to a smaller hospital closer to your home when he is well enough. Some babies require transfer to another hospital for specialist treatment, such as paediatric surgery. .

Whatever the reason for you baby's transfer, you may find it difficult to leave the security and familiar surroundings of our NIC Unit.

Every unit has a different routine and may even have a different approach to parents' involvement in the care of their baby.

This can make you very anxious and emotional at first but you will soon become used to your new surroundings.

Always remember that your baby has been transferred to receive the very best care.

Visit as often as you can.

Find out the name of your baby's doctor and arrange a meeting. Talk to the nursing staff and check routines. The social worker or NNICUPS may be able to help you in practical ways. Never be afraid to ask questions; the staff are always happy to answer your concerns.
